Anne Frank Museum

If you’ve ever read the Diary of Anne Frank, you will want to visit the house where it all happened.  See the front offices, and then pass through the bookcase into the secret annex.  This museum shows you the history of the Frank family, and the holocaust.  Open daily from 9am - 7pm, times do vary so be sure to check online to confirm the opening hours for the day you intend to go.  Tickets cost €9 for adults, €4 with a Stadspas.

Red Light District

While some may think of the red light district as a shady area to be avoided, it is actually one of the main attractions of Amsterdam’s night life.  The area covers a few blocks of the downtown area and starts up around dusk.  Even if you are not interest in what is offered in the district, it is still an experience to walk through the area.  It is full of tourists and always crowded, so there is no need to feel unsafe in the area.  That being said, it is important to always be cautious of pick pocketers.

Coffee Shops

In Amsterdam the term coffee shop doesn’t refer to a place like Starbucks.  These are places where you can go and relax with friends after a day of sightseeing.  There are many of these around Amsterdam, and each offers a variety of products.  The workers are very happy to help you choose your product, no matter what your experience level.  Prices can vary between the different types, but they are all relatively cheap.  Some of the best and most famous shops are the Bull Dog, but there are many smaller shops that offer more variety.  Brain Matter is known amongst connoisseurs as having a particularly good variety.

Vodelpark

Located just outside the main area of Amsterdam, this beautiful park is a great place to relax and have lunch.  This park is a favourite with the locals.  If you’re looking to take an afternoon off, this is the place to do it.

Night Life

Amsterdam has a very busy night life.  There are many clubs and bars for you to explore, or you can join one of the cities famous pub crawls and meet some new friends while seeing the best spots.
